More Brotherly Love

I think it might be happening.  I really don't want to jinx it, but I think that the season of Lance and Kiran playing together is beginning!  Lance has figured out that he can do funny things that make Kiran crack up, and Kiran is starting to hold his own a little better with his big bro.
Don't get me wrong- a good part of the day is spent rescuing Kiran from pushes, shoves, grabs, smushes, and kicks, but Lance and Kiran are really starting to have fun together too!  It is so adorable to watch their relationship develop.  I've taken at least one video of the two of them together every day for the past week or so but none of them seem to capture the beauty of their little interactions...

So, here's a couple of shots of the two of them that kind of sum it up...

Getting Dressed

Putting his clothes on all by himself is something Lance doesn't get the chance to do as often as he should.  It seems like we are always rushing to get somewhere (out and about or to bed) and he dawdles or gets interested in something else and then suddenly there I am again, dressing my little guy even though I know he can do it!!

Anyway, tonight I motivated him by pointing out that Max (his biggest cousin) puts HIS clothes on ALL by HIMself, every day!!!!!!!  wow.  It totally worked.  Lance got to work and talked about how Max is SO big that he can even pick Lance up....

The punchline came when Lance looked up at me with his jammies all in place (put on all by himself) and exclaimed "Maybe now I can pick Max up all by myself!!!"
ha!
good thing Max wasn't here for Lance to give it a try and have his little spirit crushed!

Happiness Is...

finding out that you and your best buddy both packed the same undies to change into after a super fun day at the beach...

the littles had their own fun too, of course.  sharing a stroller, digging in the rocks and hanging with their mommies.

What a great little beach date.  We all came home feeling happy.

Graduation from Hi'ilani

Yesterday was a big day for Lance. It was his graduation from a mommy and me program that Lance and I have been going to since he was just six weeks old! Needless to say, we are so so sad that our time at Hi'ilani is up. We have watched the other keiki in the program grow up over the years and have developed special relationships with the class teachers. It has been a chance for Lance to play his heart out with amazing toys in the most kid friendly environment in Hilo. All with yours truly right by his side, not distracted by dishes or phone calls. Our time at Hi'ilani has been special for both of us.
The next step is, of course, preschool and Lance could not be more excited. Everytime we pass a school (be it Hilo High School or UH Hilo) Lance asks me if "that is where Lance is going to preschool, Mommy?!" Oy vey... it's definitely going by way way way too fast.
We will miss the camaraderie, support, fun, and amazing advice we have gotten over the past two plus years from our friends at Hi'ilani. Thank you!

Dylan James Wiley

Three weeks ago, my sister Lesley and brother in law Jeff welcomed their precious son Dylan James. Teeny tiny in body but strong and bright in spirit, Dylan spent two very special days getting to know his parents and saying hello to the rest of his family, who all fell in love with him at first sight. It's hard to explain how such a little guy could make such an impact from inside his incubator while hooked up to all sorts of breathing, feeding and monitoring apparatuses but Dylan's strong, calm presence was clear to all of us that had the great fortune of meeting him.
Dylan was born at 24 weeks after Les was diagnosed with a very dangerous form of preeclampisa called HELLP syndrome. Lesley and Jeff faced her diagnosis, and Dylan's birth with the same courage, strength and togetherness that they are known for... (I think we can all still see the look on their faces when Les crutched down the aisle after her car accident four years ago). They spent their precious time with Dylan proudly introducing him to his grandparents, aunties and uncles, reading him stories, talking to him, holding his teeny hands and telling him how much they loved him. They also shared with Dylan all of the messages of love and support that they received from family and friends after his birth.
Dylan received the best care possible from one of the best NICUs in the country while lying on a handmade quilt and wearing a tiny knit hat that were provided by this amazing facility. Jeff and Lesley could not be more grateful for the care that the three of them received. Heartbreakingly, despite all of this, Dylan's little lungs were not able to handle the hard work they had to do.

There is no making sense of this. It has been absolutely crushing to see two people I love so much go through something that seems so unfair and so wrong. However, the amount of love and support that has poured in for Lesley and Jeff and the rest of our family has been incredible. Watching my little sis and her husband face this with the amount of bravery that they have has been awe inspiring to say the least. And most importantly, there is no question that Dylan knows how much he was loved. We are all finding some peace in that.

We Love You Dylan!!!!

Papa, Grandma Kathie and Auntie Jane!

Papa and Grandma Kathie made their annual trip to Hilo in March with a special visitor in tow... Auntie Jane! What a treat us to share a whole week with our loved family!

Papa arrived with one of the most special gifts Lance has ever received. A handmade airplane complete with photos of his family as passengers and Lance as the pilot! Papa's care, creativity, and attention to detail on this project pretty much sum up his qualities as a grandfather. It is always a joy to watch his relationship with Lance grow. He also had the chance to meet Kiran and get to know our smiley little guy.
Grandma Kathie and Lance fell right into their favorite routine of reading books and even enjoyed a special outing to the library together!

The boys and I were able to meet a much loved Harmeling- Auntie Jane. She came full of interest, love, and joy for our family and the Big Island. We all fell in love with her immediately and hope she will make it back one day!
Papa and Grandma Kathie's annual visits usually fall on Lance's half birthday, and being a big birthday person, we naturally had to celebrate! Happy two and a half Lance!
Of course we spent a gorgeous day at Beach 69s... lots of adults with the two boys meant we all got time to swim, talk, and relax in the sun.

Can't wait to see you next March!

34.

Thirty Four years old and had the fortune of celebrating with my three favorite guys at the most heavenly resort on the Big Island.
The four of us could not have been happier for this time together. It was much needed.
Lots of beach time, pool time, jumping on the bed time, zzzz's time, and relaxing in paradise time.
Happy Birthday to ME! :)

After the boys went to bed, Stef and I listened to the waves and watched an incredible lightning storm over the water. Caught this quick video that you all might enjoy...

Holding Hands

"Mommy look!! KK and I are holding hands!!!"
one of the sweetest sights I've seen and the two year old enthusiasm to go with it warranted an attempt at a pic while driving while watching the road (of course). The result is this... a terrible picture capturing an incredibly sweet moment between brothers.
